Le Corbusier LC3 Grand Confort Soft Three-Seat Sofa - Modern Luxury Living Room Furniture for Contemporary Home & Office Decor

A spirited advocate of Modernism, Le Corbusier created a range of chairs, including the LC3 Grand Confort, that expressed his ideas with great sophistication. Le Corbusier designed the original LC3 Confort collection based on the human scale. The original prototypes had spring rear legs that made the chair slant back when in use. The mechanism did not function properly, and the surviving examples all look like the rear legs were cut off. The LC3 prototypes were also painted since the construction methods did not allow proper chrome plating.

Mrs. Heidi Weber of Zurich first put the Le Corbusier collection into production in 1959. With the approval of Le Corbusier, she changed the appearance of the chair. She removed the spring mechanism and used fabricating methods which allowed the frame to be chromed. She also gave the cushions a more formal, tailored look. Her contribution to the re-design of the collection contributed to its commercial success. Whereas the LC2 and LC3 Grand have firm and tailored cushions, the LC3 Soft will have a less formal appearance of "broken-in luxe."

Le Corbusier’s designed many of his famous pieces in the late 1920s with the collaboration of Charlotte Perriand.  It was their endeavor to create functional pieces that would help produce a better society.  “The extension of the art of dwelling is the art of living – living in harmony with man’s deepest drives and with his adopted and fabricated environment.” (Charlotte Perriand, 1981)
